NBC, CBS Issue Retractions After Making the Same Big Mistake in Reporting on Navy Yard Shooting | TheBlaze.com

NBC and CBS, two of the largest news organizations in the country, were both forced to retract initial reports about the name of the Navy Yard shooter who went on a killing rampage in Washington, D.C., on Monday.

Both networks falsely identified the wrong man as the suspected shooter:

It was soon clear that the reports were false and came from sources who found an ID card that apparently looked like the suspected gunman. The retractions quickly followed:

The news networks have been highly criticized on social media by those who believe it’s always better to be right rather than first when reporting on a breaking news story.
