Kroll Chairman William Bratton in talks with British government to become an advisor on preventing gang-related violence and creating safer communities

NEW YORK, Aug. 12, 2011 – Kroll Chairman William J. Bratton is in talks with the British government to become an advisor on preventing gang-related violence and creating safer communities. The discussions began today when Mr. Bratton had a private consultation with U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron.

Mr. Bratton, because of his leadership expertise in U.S. law enforcement and record of achieving major reductions in violent and gang-related crimes when he led the New York City and Los Angeles Police Departments, has been the subject of recent media speculation about what services and assistance he might be able to provide the British government in the wake of a recent outbreak of gang-related violence in London and several other British cities.

“I am honored to provide my counsel to the Prime Minister in light of the understandable interest of the British people and their government to address the issues of gangs and gang violence,” said Mr. Bratton. “I would certainly be in a position to discuss the contemporary American experience and my work in these areas – in particular the successes that created real reductions in gang-related crime in Boston, New York and most recently in Los Angeles, where we also saw significant improvements in the relations between the police and the city’s diverse communities. There are many lessons from these experiences that I believe are relevant to the current situation in England.”

“I fully appreciate the difficulties they are currently facing,” said Mr. Bratton. “I support their resolve to seize upon this difficult situation as an opportunity to address the issues of gangs and gang violence and the resulting fear and disorder head-on. I am certain the British people and their government will be successful in meeting these challenges.”

Terms and conditions of the engagement have not been finalized.

Mr. Bratton joined Altegrity, the parent company of Kroll, in November 2009, after serving as Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for seven years. He is known as one of America’s premier police chiefs, the only person to have led two of the largest police forces in the United States, the New York City Police Department and the LAPD. He was named by Security magazine as one of 2010’s most influential people in the security industry based on his leadership qualities and the positive impact that his work has made on organizations, colleagues and the general public.
