As many of you remember, the State of Oklahoma had significant technological problems stemming from a vendor who conducted the state tests (CTB-McGraw Hill) in 2013. Those problems resulted in real difficulties for students who are required to pass the End of Instruction (EOI) exams as required by the Oklahoma State Legislature and the State Department of Education. In one week (January 28) the SDE will be requiring all school districts to conduct a stress test at the behest of our testing vendor (CTB-McGraw Hill) which has the responsibility of conducting the tests again this year. In essence this is a trial run to determine if CTB has corrected its technology problems of a year ago. Id like to be able to tell you that we are enthusiastic about participating in this event but Id be lying. Although we fundamentally do not believe it is the responsibility of school districts to interrupt the normal workings of a school day at our secondary schools (in order to assist a vendor who is receiving more than $30 million to carry out this work) we want to ensure our students and families that they can be confident in taking these important assessments later this year. This is important for our kids. We need your help to ensure our participation in the tests with the least disruption to our school day. We need you to be physically present for us and act as test takers as we literally run all of our secondary computers (running the test) at the same time. This test will be conducted at the same time across the entire State of Oklahoma so that the testing company can be assured of load tolerances for their servers and other equipment. If youre available and interested - please consider assisting our schools and the Information Technology department of Sapulpa Public Schools by volunteering. Joe Slitzker (Director of IT) has included the information about how to help in this packet. We look forward to having you with us on January 28 at Sapulpa High School, Sapulpa Junior High School or Sapulpa Middle School.
