Iraqi army foils Anbar oil pipeline attack | Al-Shorfa

One gunman was killed and another was arrested in clashes between the army and a group that tried to blow up an oil pipeline north of Haditha in Anbar province, an Iraqi military spokesman said Monday (September 16th).

"Five gunmen tried to plant dynamite sticks around a crude oil pipeline north of Haditha, but a military force based nearby clashed with them, killing one of them and arresting another, while the other three fled the scene," said Iraqi army spokesman in Anbar Lt. Col. Najm al-Dulaimi.

Helicopters are conducting intensive searches to locate the men, who fled towards the western Anbar desert, he told Al-Shorfa, adding that they are probably al-Qaeda elements.

There were no casualties among the security forces or damages in the pipeline, he said.
