VIDEO-New Tool to Help Police in Manhunt | WNEP.com

PRICE TOWNSHIP — It’s been 44 days and accused cop killer Eric Frein is still on the loose.

The search for Frein is still focused in the Poconos.

On Sunday Newswatch 16 spotted some state police vehicles at Alpine Mountain near Candensis where troopers were testing a new device to help their search efforts.

The Ohio Department of Transportation donated the device that is similar to a weather-balloon. State police said there is a camera inside which can get pictures similar to the pictures they can get from a helicopter, but at a potentially lower cost.

According to Drone Aviation Corp., the makers The Blimp in a Box™ (BiB), direct operating costs are as low as $15 dollars per hour based on a contiguous 3-day mission.  When comparing to airborne alternatives such as manned aircraft, the operating and maintenance cost advantages of the BiB systems are significant.

However, troopers said it was too windy to test out the balloon and they will try again Monday.
