White House drone was flown by federal employee - Jennifer Epstein - POLITICO

A National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency employee has taken responsibility for flying a drone onto White House grounds, the agency said Tuesday.

The worker, who was not named, voluntarily reported that he had been flying the drone after it was discovered early Monday morning by the Secret Service.

“The employee was off duty and is not involved in work related to drones or unmanned aerial vehicles in any capacity at NGA,” spokesman Don Kerr said.

“Even though the employee was using a personal item while off duty, the agency takes the incident very seriously and remains committed to promoting public trust and transparency,” he added.

NGA is part of the Defense Department and the intelligence community, and analyzes geospatial intelligence for those agencies, among others. Its headquarters are at Fort Belvoir in northern Virginia.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that the man told law enforcement sources he had been drinking before the incident at an apartment near the White House.
