Bill Nye is on a quest to change the world, and we want you to be part of it!
Once the host of a popular kid’s show, Bill is about to take off his “Science Guy” lab coat and battle the naysayers to create a more scientifically literate and engaged universe.
We’re going to make a film about it. A film for science. A film for the cosmos. The full access, exclusive film about Bill Nye.
We’re documentary filmmakers, but we’re also hardcore Bill Nye fans who spent our middle school years learning about the ecosystem and the color spectrum from his trusty VHS tapes. Bill’s passion and enthusiasm stayed with us, and when we got older, we started making films about science and technology. When we learned that Bill Nye was doing something new, working outside of the classroom to champion science and space exploration and the fight against climate change, we knew we had to make this documentary.
So we did our homework and learned everything we could about Bill. We gathered a great team, including Academy Award-winning producer Seth Gordon, and we created a plan for a documentary that will offer an all access backstage pass to Bill’s epic quest to change the world. Then, we shared our vision with Bill, who not only said yes but opened up his life to us. We’re still a little giddy. It’s awesome!
With Bill on board, we’re ready to start following Bill as he tours the globe, advocates for space policy in Washington DC, launches a satellite, hangs out with Neil deGrasse Tyson, debates climate change deniers, and attempts to fill the big shoes of his former mentor and friend Carl Sagan -- all at a time when science is under attack.
The pieces are all falling in to place, but we need one last boost to make this film happen. We need your support. We need to raise the funds to travel with Bill, buy plane tickets and crash in cheap hotels. We need to find and license the best moments from Bill’s storied career in television -- including “Bill Nye The Science Guy,” as well as the lesser known classics like “Bill’s Basement” and “Almost Live!” Then, we need to hire an amazing team for post-production, including an editor, sound designer, animator, composer and colorist. Finally, we need to send it to film festivals and get it out into the world.
So we are turning to you, people of the internet…. People who grew up on Bill Nye... People who care about science and knowledge and bow ties. If you get on board with this crazy mission, we will make the ultimate documentary about Bill Nye, and science will finally rule (again)!
Carl Sagan once said, “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” We know that right here in front of us, there is a great story waiting to be known. Below is a Kickstarter exclusive scene from the soon-to-be-film about the launching of LightSail-A, a solar sailing spacecraft. We filmed the test mission, but the actual mission is happening next year. Help fund this project so we can film with Bill as he launches LightSail-B, which will send a low cost solar sail into the cosmos.

After some preliminary shooting, strategy sessions and talks with Bill, we have now identified our story threads and we’re starting production in earnest. We’ll be shooting the film from now until fall of 2016. Editing will begin this December and hopefully we’ll have the film finished and ready to apply to festivals in 2017.
