After a series of leaks from ClubMed overnight, this lunchtime (Friday) there is growing confirmation that Turkey’s price for aiding in the refugee process has been a fast-track towards membership of the European Union.
Those who have found themselves in recent weeks “at the mercy of bigger forces” on the migrant question may now feel they have the answer: was the ‘Second Wave’ of migrants launched deliberately by Erdogan as a bargaining tool designed to gain access to the EU?
It is too early to say without further information and digging. But the result of this secret deal is going to be divisive within the EU beyond even the wildest imaginings of the conspiracy theory clique. France will almost certainly be opposed, as will much of Eastern Europe.
