| Hello, In Sahih Muslim, which if I am not mistaken is one of the two most reliable hadith collections in Sunni Islam, it mentions that Muhammad said that people should only use their right hand when eating, because the Shaytan eats with his left hand. There are also mentions in the Abu Dawud hadith collection that Muhammad reserved his right hand for purification and his left hand for lowly things when using the bathroom. What does this mean for left-handed Muslims? Do they have to clumsily eat, shake hands, and do wudu with their right hand and use their dominant hand to go to the bathroom? Or is there flexibility for left-handed Muslims? |

No sin to do, but receive blessings for not doing Haram is forbidden, a sin if we do it Eating with the right hand is Sunnah. It is doing as the early Muslims did. No sin for failure to do so, but rewards for doing to the best of our ability. __________________When posting as a MOD my posts will be in redNo advertising, no copyrighted material, no personal attacks MODERATOR OF: Buddhism:Judaism:Paganism: When in doubt read the TOS MOD LISTFAQ's |

Probably the prophet never said such a thing , or he said a similar thing to describe another thing but was misanderstood or changed in time. So your question is so sensible and we can make it more sensible, what about the people who doesnt have a right hand ? According to hadiths (tale, story, narration in Arabic) they will burn in hell or they will use the spoon with their right foot From Quran; 45:6 These are God's signs that We recite to you with truth (Quran) So, in which hadith, after God and His signs, do they acknowledge ? By the way I'm a left handed muslim . |

No sin to do, but receive blessings for not doing | Okay, I am used to Ashkenazi Orthodox Judaism where things that are "not recommended" are essentially socially forbidden and thus there is little practical difference between the two terms, even if the heavenly reward/punishment might differ. If you are known to do something that is seen as being unnecessarily lenient or not recommended, then people will often shun you or not want your kids hanging out with them. It is a very sad situation that probably results in people leaving Orthodox Judaism to become either Reform or Conservative (in the U.S.) or secular (in Israel).Would Muslims feel comfortable doing something makruf in public, or is it something that should be kept private? Like would you see an imam doing something makruf? |
