Lauren Southern - Wikipedia

Political career Edit

In 2015, Southern was a candidate in the Canadian Federal Election representing the Libertarian Party in the district of Langley—Aldergrove.[7] She was briefly removed by the party as a candidate, but was eventually reinstated with support from alt-right news sites .[12] The election was eventually won by Conservative candidate Mark Warawa.

Media activism Edit

In June 2015, while reporting on the event, Southern's Rebel Media cameraman was shoved at the SlutWalk in Vancouver and Southern's protest sign stating "There Is No Rape Culture In The West" was torn up.[13][14]

In March 2016, a protester in Vancouver poured a container of urine over Southern's head while she was speaking with other protesters at a rally in Vancouver.[15][16] The incident apparently resulted from statements Southern made about there being "only two genders".[17] Southern was banned from Facebook after she criticised Facebook for banning several conservative commentators from the site.[18][19]

Southern initiated "The Triggering", whereby on March 9, the day after International Women's Day, Twitter users post taboo content in defence of free speech.[20]

In October 2016, Southern had her gender legally changed to male as part of a video produced for Rebel Media to show the ease of the new gender ID laws.[21][22]

Southern posted incorrect rumours from 4chan that the January 2017 Quebec City mosque shooting had been carried out by Syrian refugees, but later deleted those tweets.[23]

In March 2017, Southern announced she would be leaving Rebel Media to become an independent journalist.[24] In the same month Lauren Southern gained access to White House press briefings.[25][26]

In April 2017, she was one of several scheduled speakers at a Patriots' Day rally in Berkeley, California. The rally led to a riot between pro-Trump demonstrators and anti-Trump counter-protesters.[27]

In May 2017, Lauren Southern took part in a demonstration with the Identitarian movement, when she tried to block the passage of an NGO ship which they mistakenly claimed was carrying migrants to Sicily. The ship was used for SOS Mediterranée and Doctors without Borders for search and rescue operations.[28][29][30]
