Report: Russia Threatens to Ban Facebook - Breitbart

In a statement, Alexander Zharov, the head of “communications regulator” Roskomnadzor, declared that “the law is obligatory for all.”

“In all cases we will make sure the law is complied with, or the company will stop working in the Russian Federation. There are no exceptions here,” Zharov continued, adding, “In 2018, we will think about it, and maybe we will check.”

According to CNN, “Russia’s law on personal data storage came into effect in September 2015,” and “requires companies that collect the personal data of citizens to store the information on Russian soil.”

Russia has come under fire from the Democratic establishment recently who claim Russian adverts on Facebook may have influenced the 2016 presidential election.

This month, it was reported that FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller is “now in possession of Russian-linked ads run on Facebook during the presidential election.”

Facebook handed over the adverts along with detailed information about the accounts behind the adverts in response to a search warrant.
