LAS VEGAS — Clark County Sheriff Joel Lombardo provided the newest update to the October 1st mass shooting which left 58 people dead and hundreds injured at the Route 91 Festival.

As of today, there are 546 reported injuries, with 501 of the victims being discharged from the hospitals.

45 people are still in critical condition, Lombardo stating it is possible the death toll could climb depending on the recovery of those being treated for their wounds.

On the topic of fuel tanks located at the Las Vegas Airport, Lombardo says "it is believed fuel tanks were fired on with intent."

There has been an autopsy performed on Stephen Paddock, a visual inspection showing no abnormalities of his brain, though it has been sent off to a lab for microscopic study.

Lombardo says they continue to expand the investigation along with the FBI into Paddock's life and possible motives, life events leading up to the shooting.

Aaron Rouse, SAC for the FBI in Las Vegas, says to date there have been no signs of ideology or beliefs tied to Stephen Paddock as a reason for the shooting.

Sheriff Lombardo praised his officers for being among the thousands of heroes, specifically calling out Brady Cook, who sustained four gunshot wounds. Lombardo says Cook arrived on scene in a cruiser, at which time Paddock aimed for Cook's vehicle and others. Cook was struck in the shoulder, bicep, chest, and back.

Lombardo was overcome with emotion, saying despite the toll it has taken on Cook and other officers, Cook asked if he could come back to work today.
