Florida shooter was living with military intelligence analyst, Army vet | MLive.com

The family who took in Nikolas Cruz, the Florida school shooting suspect, after his mother died last year has spoken out for the first time about how they had no idea about the violence the teen was planning.

Kimberly and James Snead said they set strict house rules for Cruz, 19, when they agreed to bring their son's friend into their home - including a locked cabinet for the teen's guns. They didn't know he had a key to it, they said in an exclusive interview with the Sun-Sentinel.

Kimberly Snead, 49,  is a neonatal nurse and James Snead, 48, is described as a decorated Army veteran and military intelligence analyst.

"Everything everybody seems to know, we didn't know," James Snead said in the interview. "It's as simple as that."

Cruz is accused of killing 17 teachers and students last Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

In the interview, James Snead said he thought he was the only one with a key to Cruz's gun cabinet, but now knows the teen must have kept a key for himself, the Associated Press said.

The couple had told Cruz he needed permission to use his guns.
