ECLIPSE TOWN HALL | Fredericksburg Standard

Body

City planners and emergency workers held an Eclipse Town Hall on Wednesday, May 17 at the Fredericksburg High School Auditorium. The officials have been trying to come up with solutions for potential scenarios with the additional people expected in Gillespie County during the annular solar eclipse on Oct. 14, 2023, and the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Both eclipses will cross over Gillespie County in a path that maximizes the sun blockage. Above, City Emergency Management Coordinator Justin Calhoun explains how EMS, fire and law enforcement are trying to plan for up to 100,000 additional people in town for the 2024 event. Joining Calhoun on the panel were, from left, City Manager Clinton Bailey, Jennifer Page of Methodist Hospital | Hill Country, Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce CEO Penny McBride, Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau’s Amanda Koone, Gillespie County Sheriff Buddy Mills and Fredericksburg Police Chief Brian Vorauer. The city’s Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Jennifer Krupa is co-chairing the Eclipse Task Force with Calhoun. The town hall also featured a question-and-answer session. The town hall was streamed on Fbg.live and is available for viewing on YouTube. — Standard-Radio Post/Ken Esten Cooke
